Bhuvaneshwar Mandir
'The Beacon of Light'

Bhuvaneshwar Mandir was founded in 1984 in Brooklyn, New York by Shri Prakash Gossaiji on the principles of Bhakti and Gyaan or Devotion and Knowledge. The etymology of the word Bhuvaneshwar is 'Bhuvan' + 'Ishwar,' where Bhuvan means world and Ishwar means God. It is another name for Lord Shiva as this form of God is known as the God of the World.  It was the vision of Shri Prakash Gossaiji that there should a place where Hindus can congregate and be taught values such as strength, hope and love that becomes a part of one's personality where people from any background come together and pray together. Guruji's vision and work together with the founding members resulted in a place where many Hindus called a spiritual home. This is where they grew spiritually with devotion or inspired love for God and were taught methodologies of how to deal with the challenges of life by way of our Hindu Scriptures.  It was the mission of Shri Prakash Gossaiji that there should be a  strong focus on developing the children especially in Religion, Culture and Education. Guruji's mission is being accomplished by the Youth Empowerment activities conducted by Acharya Arun Gossai.  In 2004, Bhuvaneshwar Mandir shifted to Ozone Park, Queens and currently the Mandir is still a beacon of light for the community for people of all backgrounds.
